EMULSION LOBOTOMY

In this new project, I introduce a fresh perspective on self-portraiture. Drawing from my personal archives, I select negatives and Kodachrome film that depicted intimate images of me during my challenging time as an addict —a disparaging chapter of my life I yearn to forget. By harnessing the power of transmutation, I reshape these fragments of film into captivating collages that not only severe any negative association related in the original content, but also add layers of depth and dimension to the series.

By converting personal and adverse content into aesthetically pleasing pieces, I confirm theories that images inherently carry emotional weight and trigger memories from the past in a visceral fashion. The small-scale of each piece invite viewers to engage with the intricate patterns and textures that emerge, allowing them to form their own connections and interpretations. This approach offers a distinctive perspective on the relationship between images from our past and expands the boundaries of traditional photographic practices. My objective is to inspire others to reevaluate their relationship with images and the powerful sentiments they evoke.
